Brand New, Quarterly Speaker Series

BRAND NEW! - The Youth Ag & Leadership Foundation is excited to announce a new opportunity for Sonoma County youth to expand their knowledge and understanding of diverse issues in our County that affect agriculture.  There will be four speakers a year and the Foundation will award "Certificates of Agriculture Literacy and Community Action" to students who attend all four.  

Future speakers will educate us on technology in agriculture; sustainability; pursuing a career in agriculture; urban farming; agriculture public policy; nutrition; and rebuilding after the fires.  

February 21, 2020 - Cash for College Night-Scholarship Information Meeting will be a great night for students looking to get information on college scholarships to swing by and have all their questions answered by local scholarship entities.  Free to students, the following organizations will be there:  Sonoma County Farm Bureau Foundation, Sonoma Count Fair Foundation, Youth Ag & Leadership Foundation of Sonoma County, and Santa Rosa Junior College.

February 22, 2020 - "Career Success Workshop" will include a career panel; a mock interview skill workshop; and advice on how to get an internship.

June 20, 2020 - "Diversity in Agriculture" - Farmer Mai studied the atmosphere and soil from Berkeley, CA to Barlow, AK but grew tired of documenting ways we're destroying our planet and decided she wanted to actively help. So she decided to tackle environmental damage head on, and found herself dealing with what some might describe as the tail end of food production, waste management.  She traveled to Southeast Asia, including Vietnam her family's homeland, and worked on sewage and water sanitation projects for disaster relief and refugee camps.  She began to consider the long-term livelihoods of displaced people, including her own family who were refugees.  and that's when she realized she should return home to serve the diaspora community she's from. 

August 29, 2020 - "Unique Opportunities in Agriculture" - Lynette Lyon, 30, is an exotic animal trainer and Sonoma resident.  At Lyon Ranch, her family business, she take care of therapy pets and exotic rescue animals.  She is the go-to person when the California State Department of Fish and Game find exotic animals in need ans has even appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel" and "The Tonight Show."
